About OPEN UNIVERSITY
Open University allows access to Cal Poly's quality Learn by Doing instruction without formally enrolling in the university as part of a degree granting program.
Open University is managed by Cal Poly Extended Education. Please note, current Cal Poly students are not eligible for enrollment via Open University.
Why OPEN UNIVERSITY
Open University provides:
- Interested individuals the opportunity to take courses in diverse subjects to pursue personal areas of interest or expand their professional skills.
- An avenue for former Cal Poly students to increase their GPA in order to be considered for reinstatement.
- Access for students planning to enter a post-baccalaureate or graduate program who need to fulfill prerequisite courses or improve their GPA.
Based on guidance from San Luis Obispo County health officials, Cal Poly is requiring all students who live and participate in on-campus activities to provide a negative test result for COVID-19 before they arrive on campus. This includes students living on campus and students living off-campus who visit the university campus for any reason, such as labs, classes, and services. To regularly assess the health status of our community, students may be tested again by university medical officials during fall quarter.Cal Poly COVID-19 Testing Information
Open University is a unique opportunity for students that are not currently admitted into Cal Poly to take classes and get academic credit.
